Qigong (pronounced ‘Chee - Gung’) is often translated as ‘The art of cultivating vital energy’. It includes flowing movements, simple and potent meditations, sound and visualizations for healing.
What is Qigong?
Qigong is medical in that it is one of the five pillars of Chinese medicine, the others being acupuncture, massage, herbs and Feng Shui. It’s martial in that every martial artist will do qigong as their foundation for health and energy. It’s spiritual in that it has roots in China’s Daoist and Buddhist traditions. In Daoism, the cultivation of qi through movement practices like qigong was part of the path to harmony with the natural world and Oneness with Dao.
Certain types of QiGong are easier and more accessible than yoga can be for people with limited mobility, and the practice does not require props or a mat. It can be practiced outdoors or indoors, standing or seated, and an effective session can be as short as 10-15 minutes.
QiGong will help you rediscover your inner source of vitality, enthusiasm and balance.
Qigong is a subtle, gentle practice for moving and balancing your life force. When done properly, qigong improves the circulation of your vital energy, or qi, as well as the blood and breath — without feeling taxing or depleting.
